Chelsea
manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that captain Reece James is in contention
to face Liverpool on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, but the England
international is only fit enough to play one game a week.
The right-back has struggled with several long-term hamstring injuries and
has not started a Premier League game in 11 months.
"Reece James is available, he is back," said Maresca. "He worked with us on
the international break. It's good news especially for him. Injury is not a
good feeling, finally he is back.
"It's always complicated when you get injury, injury and injury again.
You're always looking for a solution. The solution with Reece is the same
solution we are using with Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana in terms of using
them just once a week, one game.
"Probably in this moment, for different reasons, Reece's body cannot play
twice a week.
"In this moment, it can be the solution. Now in the future, I don't know.
"But if we want to build his physical condition, the solution is to allow
him to go slowly, slowly and use him once a week.
"Then hopefully in the future, we can use him more. But now, it's once a
week."
