Enzo Maresca recorded his first victory in charge of Chelsea as his side
easily saw off Club America 3-0 in Atlanta.
Chelsea, who had been held by Wrexham before suffering a heavy loss against
Celtic, had no problems at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium after making an early
breakthrough.
Romeo Lavia, now fit after an injury-ravaged debut campaign in west London,
powered into the box before being upended, with Christopher Nkunku
converting the third-minute penalty.
Lavia and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall both caught the eye in midfield, although
the recent new arrival from Leicester City did spurn two presentable chances
to further increase his side's lead before the break.
However, Dewsbury-Hall did create a second goal after 21 minutes as his
centre was headed home at the near post for Marc Guiu's first goal for his
new club.
Maresca brought on Enzo Fernandez, after the Argentine recently made the
headlines for all the wrong reasons, and new signing Filip Jorgensen for a
second half that lacked the intensity of the first 45 minutes.
However, Noni Madueke continued to impress as part of Chelsea's excellent
three-man front line, completing the scoring with a penalty with 10 minutes
to go.
The only concern for Maresca was seeing player-of-the-match Malo Gusto limp
off after 70 minutes, to be replaced by Ben Chilwell.
