Blues Brush Aside Canaries  (Sky Sports)

Chelsea 4 Norwich City 0

Didier Drogba celebrates his goalChelsea booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a comfortable 4-0 win over Norwich.

Shaun Wright-Phillips set the home side on their way with a fine volley with Didier Drogba adding a second after half-time.

The home side added the icing on the cake late on with further goals from Michael Essien and Andrei Shevchenko.

Chelsea had a first couple of chances in the game with Wright-Phillips and Lampard having long-range efforts, but in truth Norwich made a bright start.

The visitors suffered a blow shortly after as keeper David Marshall was forced out of the action after twisting an ankle and was replaced by Paul Gallacher.

Peter Grant's side nearly edged into a shock lead when Dickson Etuhu's left-footed strike beat Cech, but it struck the inside the post.

The rebound fell kindly for Lee Croft, although he scuffed his shot allowing defender Khalid Boulahrouz to hack the ball out for a corner.

Chelsea pilled on the pressure, but Lampard's cheeky chip was comfortable for Gallacher, however, the Scottish shot-stopper had to be en guard to parry Robben's left-footed shot.

Just when it looked like Norwich would go in at the interval all-square the Premiership champions forged ahead through Wright-Phillips.

Lampard created the space outside the box and after his left-footed shot was blocked, Wright-Phillips was perfectly placed to volley home past Gallacher.

Jose Mourinho was forced into an enforced change before the break when Boulahrouz, who was making his first appearance since early January, was replaced by Michael Essien due to an arm injury.

Norwich's task was made even harder after the interval when woeful marking from Lampard's inswinging corner allowed Drogba to control in the box before stabbing home from close range.

Mourinho clearly felt his side were in a strong position after deciding to take off star striker Drogba and bring on summer signing Salomon Kalou up front.

Kalou was not on his own for too long with Shevchenko coming on for ever-present Lampard to give the England international the rest of the game off.

The Canaries could have pulled a goal back with 15 minutes remaining, but Chris Brown sent his header wide of Cech's far post after a great left-footed cross into the box by Andy Hughes.

A world class save from Cech denied Croft moments later while substitute Chris Martin, who netted the midweek winner over Blackpool, failed to get any purchase on his shot.

Chelsea made it 3-0 when Shevchenko crossed for Essien to score at the near post following a fine left-wing run to confirm their place in the hat for the quarter-finals.

The Premiership champions still had time to add another when Shevchenko met Kalou's left-sided cross to head home past Gallacher to add insult to injury.
