Blues Survive Terriers Shock (Sky Sports)
Chelsea 2 Huddersfield Town 1
Chelsea survived an almighty FA Cup shock when securing a late 2-1 victory against a brave Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge.
Few gave Peter Jackson's League One side a prayer heading to Stamford Bridge and, despite a much-changed side looked disjointed at times - it looked like being smooth sailing when Carlton Cole headed the hosts in front after 12 minutes.
However, with Frank Lampard and John Terry, Chelsea lacked authority and Gary Taylor-Fletcher pulled a shock equaliser out of the hat on 75 minutes.
The Terriers were just eight minutes from humbling the mighty Blues and earning a replay when Eidur Gudjohnsen popped up with the winner for a relieved Chelsea.
Taylor-Fletcher had an early chance to stun the Premiership champions after just a couple of minutes, but he gave Carlo Cudicini the chance to make an easy save.
The shock gave Chelsea a wake-up call and they went ahead after ten minutes later when Cole marked his first start of the season by heading the hosts in front.
Shaun Wright-Phillips set up Cole on the half hour by nodding the ball back across from the far post for Cole to rise above the defence and head in on goal, but Phil Senior turned over well for a corner.
Robert Huth was enjoying a rare start in Mourinho's reshuffled starting line-up, and he should have done better when he was handed a free header from Damien Duff's corner - but he saw his effort hit the crossbar.
Goalscorer Cole put Wright-Phillips through on the stroke of half time but he summed up Chelsea's lack of touch in front of goal as he hit his shot wide of the post.
Chelsea started brightly in the second half as Cole headed over from a Wright-Phillips cross, but the hosts failed to build on their early momentum.
The Terriers were proving hard to break down, and the home crowd's frustration turned into disbelief as the League One outfit bagged a shock leveller 15 minutes from time.
Substitute Michael Collins slipped Taylor-Fletcher through and his shot managed to beat Cudicini despite the Italian getting a hand to it on its way in.
The visitors were only the sixth team in the last 18 to score at Stamford Bridge, but it was not to prove enough to earn a famous replay.
Jackson's men were just eight minutes away from an unlikely draw when Arjen Robben sprung down the left, and cut the ball back for Gudjohnsen to finish and hand Chelsea the lead again.
Huddersfield had no answer and they suffered heartbreak as a brave effort against the Premiership champions was ended in the dying minutes.
