Blues Scrap Past Brave Boro  (Sky Sports)

Scarborough 0 Chelsea 1

Chelsea were pushed all the way by non-league side Scarborough in their FA Cup fourth round tie with just John Terry's goal seeing the Premiership side through.

Terry's early header looked to signal the opening of the flood gates but Russell Slade's men fought back bravely and did themselves proud by putting Claudio Ranieri's star-studded side under severe pressure towards the end of the game.

Things may have even been different had referee Barry Knight spotted what looked a blatant handball by William Gallas with ten minutes left to play - denying them the chance to level from the spot.

Chelsea fired an early warning hot after a minute when Frank Lampard launched a vicious curling shot from just under 40 yards that smacked against the woodwork.

The Blues made their early pressure tell and duly took the lead just inside ten minutes when skipper John Terry nodded the ball in from virtually on the goal line.

Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink curled in after a short corner and Mario Melchiot headed back towards goal from the far post for the skipper to nod in.

The visitors then threatened to run up a cricket score as they broke at will, but they proved wasteful in front of goal with Eidur Gudjohson and Jesper Gronkjaer being the worst culprits wasting good opportunities.

Scarborough came back towards the end of the half but found Terry in the way to deny most of their opportunities.

The second half saw Chelsea again fail to take their chances but the Conference side more than held their own in general play. Lampard wasted at least three chances to put the tie to bed and that led to an uncomfortable end for the millionaires.

Goalkeeper Leigh Walker produced a fine save from a header from William Gallas, who was later to feature in a massive talking point from the game.

Chelsea looked decided uncomfortable as Scarmborough piled forward in search of a dream leveller - that almost came when on-loan Sheffield United defender got free in the box but headed the ball straight into the arms of Carlo Cudicini.

With ten minutes left to play, Gallas went up for a header inside his own box and the ball bounced off his arm as he tried to rise for the ball.

The McCain Stadium erupted with claims for a penalty but referee Barry Knight somehow decided not to point to the spot and give the brave non-leaguers a chance to level.
