Fortune Favours Trotters  (Sky Sports)

Chelsea 1 Bolton Wanderers 2

John TerryChelsea failed to reclaim top spot in The Premiership as they were sunk at home by Bolton Wanderers courtesy of John Terry's luckless last minute own goal.

Hernan Crespo had fired The Blues in front at Stamford Bridge before Bruno N'Gotty headed home an equaliser before the break, only for Terry to deflect the ball past Carlo Cudicini in the dying moments.

In a scrappy contest from first whistle to last, neither goalkeeper was seriously called on to demonstrate why they are rated among the best in The Premiership.

Wayne Bridge had to divert a dangerous early cross from Ricardo Gardner out for a corner while Crespo's sharp turn and shot went wide.

The hosts did have a goal rightly disallowed on 14 minutes when Crespo controlled with his arms before his effort deflected beyond Jussi Jaaskelainen.

But there was no questioning the legitimacy of the Argentine's goal on 22 minutes as he stooped low to head home after John Terry had flicked on Damien Duff's corner.

Just two minutes later and Bolton had a goal deservedly chalked off after Kevin Nolan's robust challenge on Cudicini forced the Italian keeper to drop the ball, which was bundled in by Ivan Campo.

The Trotters stole an equaliser on 39 minutes when Youri Djorkaeff's free kick was powerfully headed goalbound by N'Gotty and Cudicini could only get a flailing hand to the ball on its route into the net.

The second half was even less inspiring with the visitors seemingly content to sit on their point and Chelsea never threatening to put their opponents' defence under any kind of pressure.

Per Frandsen had a dipping shot tipped over by Cudicini while Jaaskelainen gathered up substitute Joe Cole's skidding shot with the minimum of fuss.

But just as the contest was petering out to a tame draw, Bolton snatched a winner in the most fortuitous of circumstances in the final minute.

Henrik Pedersen got past Glen Johnson far too easily on the left flank before racing to the by-line and hitting a low cross which deflected off Terry and in at the near post.
