Alvaro
Morata is expected to return for Chelsea in their home game against Roma in
the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Spain striker missed last weekend's 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace in the
Premier League with a hamstring injury but manager Antonio Conte should be
able to recall him for their midweek clash at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have lost their last two domestic games but are in much better shape
in Champions League Group C after opening wins over Qarabag and Atletico
Madrid.
Team news
Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses is to join midfielder N'Golo Kante in
being absent with a hamstring injury.
Midfielder Danny Drinkwater (calf) remains sidelined, so Chelsea may play
Davide Zappacosta in place of Moses and could push David Luiz or fellow
defender Andreas Christensen into midfield.
Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman and Italy attacker Stephan El Shaarawy are
both available after missing the defeat to Napoli on Saturday.
Their 1-0 loss, which leaves them fifth in Serie A, ended a run of five
consecutive wins in all competitions.
Opta stats
Roma have never won an away game against English opposition in the Champions
League (D2 L6). They've also never kept a clean sheet in those eight games.
Chelsea have picked up maximum points from their opening two games of a
Champions League campaign for the first time since 2010/11. They have always
finished top of their group after winning their opening two games.
Chelsea have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League 13 times in
their previous 14 appearances.
Meanwhile, Roma have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League
five times in their last six appearances but have never progressed further
than the quarter-finals.
Roma have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 22 away games in the
Champions League. The last shut-out was in March 2007 against Lyon (2-0).
Charlie's prediction
I think this is a really tough one for Chelsea. Roma are two points behind
them in the group so it is also a dangerous situation in terms of winning
the group, while Edin Dzeko is always a handful.
I covered Chelsea on Soccer Saturday and I wasn't impressed with them
defensively. David Luiz was poor, Gary Cahill was all over the place and
they just couldn't get hold of Wilfried Zaha.
Eden Hazard barely had a touch. I just look at him and he doesn't look in
shape to produce those slalom runs. He was top-notch last season but I was
watching him closely and that burst of pace wasn't there.
I understand it takes some players longer than others after injuries and
when that sharpness comes back he'll be flying again, but for this game
Antonio Conte has issues.
Moses went off at the weekend, Kante is out, Drinkwater is out, Willian was
really poor on Saturday and I don't know if Morata will make it, so I'm
going for a draw.
Charlie predicts: 1-1 and Dzeko to score first (30/1 with Sky Bet)
