City will face Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, while
Chelsea will take on Arsenal.
Bristol City's run has been the story of the competition and the
Championship side secured their biggest win yet when a late Korey Smith goal
secured a 2-1 win over Manchester United at Ashton Gate on Wednesday night.
That was the fourth top-flight side the Robins have knocked out of this
season's competition and they will next get a crack at Pep Guardiola's
Manchester City side, who have powered 11 points clear at the top of the
Premier League.
Bristol City, who are third in the Championship, had already beaten Watford,
Stoke and Crystal Palace, before their thrilling win over the holders.
The Robins will travel to the Etihad Stadium first in the week commencing
January 8, before hosting in-form City at Ashton Gate later that month.
City boss Lee Johnson told Sky Sports: "It is brilliant. On to another big
one against Manchester City over two legs. It is a chance for the players to
test themselves against the best players."
Manchester City required penalties for the second round in succession in
order to beat Leicester on Tuesday night - Jamie Vardy having converted an
injury-time spot-kick to make it 1-1 at the end of the 90 minutes.
Chelsea will host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their
semi-final, after leaving it late to beat Bournemouth.
The Cherries thought they had taken the game into extra-time when Dan
Gosling scored in the 90th minute, cancelling out Willian's 13th-minute
opener, only for Chelsea to go straight up the other end and score through
Alvaro Morata.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was delighted with his side and said: "This is a
remarkable achievement for us, the players deserve to have this night.
"We want to continue, to try to reach Wembley to play the final."
Arsenal defeated London rivals West Ham on Tuesday night, Danny Welbeck's
first-half goal securing a 1-0 victory.
