Sikh Referee Racially Abused  (Sky Sports)

Sukhbir SinghKick It Out are investigating online racial abuse directed at the referee who took charge of Chelsea’s pre-season loss to Inter Milan in Singapore at the weekend.

Match official Sukhbir Singh - a 33-year-old Sikh referee of Indian origin from Singapore - was criticised for his performance in the International Champions Cup game, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Antonio Conte's side.

Singh awarded a contentious penalty against Chelsea in first-half added time following a challenge by Cesar Azpilicueta on Inter forward Stefan Jovetic. Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi later saw a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside.

While the match was in progress a number of people made racist comments about referee Singh on social media platforms including Twitter. As of Tuesday morning, some of those comments remained on people's timelines.

Football's anti-discrimination campaign Kick It Out has since been contacted by members of the public concerned by the comments directed at the match official.

Kick It Out told Sky Sports News the matter is being investigated by their reporting officer who is liaising with relevant authorities.
