Alonso will miss Chelsea's next three matches after an Independent
Regulatory Commission ruled he committed an act of violent conduct against
Southampton's Shane Long.
The incident occurred in the 43rd minute of Chelsea's 3-2 win against
Southampton on Saturday when Alonso's challenge caught Long.
Alonso denied the charge and further submitted that, if found proven, the
suspension would be excessive. However, this was rejected following
Wednesday's hearing.
The ban rules him out of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Southampton and
the Premier League games against Burnley on Thursday, live on Sky Sports,
and Swansea on April 28.
Referee Mike Dean did not book Alonso for the incident, which happened
directly in front of fourth official Roger East. The FA confirmed neither
match official saw the incident, which was caught on video.
