Chelsea
loanee Michy Batshuayi is likely to miss the remainder of the season and
could miss the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury.
Belgium international Batshuayi was taken off on a stretcher late on in the
2-0 defeat by Schalke on Sunday, having appeared to roll his ankle.
The 24-year-old's season is likely to be over while there will also be
concern he could miss the World Cup as Roberto Martinez's side begin their
campaign in two months' time.
A Dortmund club tweet said: "Michy Batshuayi has sustained an ankle injury
in the derby against Schalke. He is likely to miss the remainder of the
season. A commitment for the Belgium national team at the World Cup in
Russia is still in the range of possibility. Get well soon Michy!"
Manager Peter Stoger said: "I didn't think it looked like the kind of injury
that he would be back from quickly. I hope, of course, that I'm mistaken. I
can't yet say anything specific, other than the fact that he's in pain and
will now be examined in more detail. Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks."
Batshuayi has scored nine times in 14 games since joining Dortmund on loan
in the winter transfer window in a deal that runs out at the end of this
campaign.
For Belgium, who are in England's World Cup group, Batshuayi appeared in
half of his side's qualifiers.
