Chelsea
owner Roman Abramovich did not hold late-night emergency talks with club
directors following the home defeat to Liverpool on Friday, according to Sky
sources.
Reports in several national newspapers on Tuesday claimed Abramovich held an
impromptu meeting with Chelsea officials until 1am, with head coach Antonio
Conte said to be unhappy at the club's failure to sign the players he wanted
in the summer.
But Sky sources understand no meeting took place and that there were no
late-night discussions concerning the club's summer recruitment drive.
Chelsea were the third highest spenders in the summer transfer window, with
Conte splashing out £116m on the additions of Michy Batshuay, N'Golo Kante,
Marcos Alonso and David Luiz.
The Italian suffered his first defeat since taking over as Chelsea boss on
Friday Night Football, with Liverpool claiming a 2-1 victory at Stamford
Bridge thanks to goals from Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson.
Chelsea, who won their opening three Premier League matches under Conte,
face Premier League champions Leicester in the third round of the EFL Cup on
Tuesday, live on
Sky Sports 1 HD from 7.30pm.
