Reading
have confirmed the arrival of Chelsea midfielder John Swift after the
21-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Royals.
Swift spent last season on loan at Brentford and has now made a permanent
switch to the Championship after scoring seven goals in 27 league
appearances with the Bees.
The England U21 international has been at Chelsea since 2007, coming through
their youth ranks and Reading manager Jaap Stam said he is looking forward
to seeing Swift improve even more over the coming season.
"John is a very talented player," Stam told the club website. "I've seen him
play and I think he could be very important in the way we want to play.
"He can play as a winger on either side, or as an attacking midfielder.
"His physique is good, he is good on the ball, he has the pace to get past
players, and he has the capability of putting his teammates in front of goal
with chances to score.
"He is going to be a big asset for the club."
Swift is set to be joined at the club by Hertha Berlin's Roy Beerens who has
agreed a three-year deal with the Royals.
Reading welcome Preston to the Madejski Stadium on August 6 in the opening
game of their 2016/17 Championship season.
