Chelsea To Appeal Terry Red Card  (Sky Sports)

Chelsea have appealed John Terry’s red card in Sunday's 4-1 FA Cup win over Peterborough, according to Sky sources.

The club captain was given his marching orders after a foul on Posh striker Lee Angol in the 66th minute, although the home side were already on their way to victory.

As Angol raced towards goal, Terry clipped him to send him tumbling over the legs of the defender, instantly appealing to referee Kevin Friend for clemency in the aftermath.

However, his appeals fell on deaf ears as the referee produced the card to send Terry off, marring his 50th FA Cup start for the Blues.

After the match, Blues head coach Antonio Conte said: "You have to respect the decision, but in this case maybe we will do an appeal for this situation."

And Terry himself took to Instagram to confirm the club will appeal the decision.

Terry wrote: "What a great feeling being back on the pitch today, albeit only for 67 mins after my red card which I will be appealing and hope the FA and the ref will look at it and realise I didn't touch Lee Angol."

If Chelsea's appeal is not successful, Terry will be suspended for their Premier League trip to champions Leicester on January 14. A hearing regarding the decision is expected to take place on Tuesday.
