Former
Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair does not think the Blues need to panic in
the wake of their 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Wednesday.
Antonio Conte's side went into the game looking for a record-breaking 14
consecutive Premier League victories, but two headed goals from in-form
Spurs midfielder Dele Alli ensured the Blues would not break Arsenal's run
from the 2001/02 Season.
However, Sinclair insists Chelsea must put the defeat behind them and look
to put together another string of positive results.
Chelsea had conceded just twice in 12 Premier League games but have shipped
in two goals in each of their last two matches, but Sinclair is not unduly
concerned by the way Alli was allowed to take advantage of defensive lapses
to score his double at White Hart Lane.
"I don't think it's a major problem for Chelsea, their back five have been
drilled," he told Premier League Daily. "If you look over that winning
series of games, how well they have defended.
"You would take that run all day long after the defeat to Arsenal that got
this run going.
"The Chelsea squad and the group of players would have known this run would
come at an end at some point. It's not about the actual result yesterday,
it's about how they respond to that."
Chelsea's next match in the Premier League is an away trip to defending
champions Leicester, and Sinclair warned it will not be easy for the Blues
to go on another winning run.
"Can we get on another unbeaten run?", he said. "Can we make that into
winning streaks of games again and see out this half of the season and go on
to win the league?
"It won't be easy because there are some tough games coming up for Chelsea."
