Lampard has won nearly every major honour football has to offer but now he's
added to his trophy cabinet by being honoured in the Guinness World Records
book - for scoring against Chelsea!
The New York City midfielder broke former Manchester United striker Andy
Cole's record for scoring against the most Premier League clubs after
netting against Chelsea, the club where he is record goalscorer, for
Manchester City last season.
Despite joining MLS side New York City FC, the former England star joined
City on a short-term deal before the start of the 2014/15 season and netted
his first goal for his new club against the team where he spent 13 years.
Jose Mourinho's men were the 39th club Lampard had scored against in the
Premier League, a record which will be recorded in the Guinness World
Records book on September 10.
"It was a weird feeling when I scored," Lampard said. "But it did get me the
record so I am also very happy with the goal."
Lampard is joined in the record books by Mourinho, his former boss at
Stamford Bridge, who has four records to his name.
And the Chelsea boss was so proud of his records - most points in a Premier
League season (95), most Champions Leagues won at different clubs (two),
youngest manager to reach 100 Champions League games (49 years 12 days) and
most games unbeaten at home in the Premier League (77) - that he hung the
certificates on his office wall.
"It's something fun and as a kid you could never imagine that one day you
would be in Guinness World Records book," Mourinho said.
It's no surprise to see Cristiano Ronaldo join Lampard and Mourinho in the
record books.
The Real Madrid forward scored his 27th hat-trick in La Liga - overtaking
Real Madrid great Alfredo Di Stefano - and is also the most followed athlete
and person on both Facebook (over 100 million likes) and Twitter (over 27m
followers).
Finally, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is also named in the
Guinness World Records book for scoring the fastest goal in the Premier
League by a substitute from kick-off when he netted against Burnley after
just five minutes and nine seconds last season.
He scored again to earn a second record, for the most goals in the Premier
League scored by a substitute in the first half of a game, to join the
exalted company of Lampard, Mourinho and Ronaldo.
