Chelsea
midfielder Nemanja Matic is confident that their somewhat stuttering start
to the new season has come to an end.
The reigning champions found themselves just above the Premier League drop
zone after losing three of their first five matches but then got their
Champions League campaign off to a winning start with victory over Maccabi
Tel Aviv.
And they followed up that success with a 2-0 Premier League win over Arsenal
at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, leaving the Blues in good heart of
Wednesday's Capital One Cup tie at Walsall.
And Matic thinks the derby win over the Gunners in particular has really
boosted the team.
"The game was important to win, to get some more confidence," he told the
Chelsea website.
"I can say for myself I'm feeling better. When you win, the feeling is
always better.
"We looked better on the pitch, maybe mentally we are stronger. We had more
pressure than normal before the game, because we only had four points.
"We recognised the situation, it was time to win. We played like we were one
on the pitch and we fought for every ball. This is just the beginning."
There is no rest on the horizon for Chelsea, who follow the trip to Walsall
with a visit to Newcastle on Saturday and a trip to Porto next week.
Matic added: "In two games we have scored six and not conceded. It's
important for confidence and team spirit, and now we have to continue in
this way.
"We have games every three days and I think our team is ready for that. It's
going to be interesting, we will see what we can do.
"I am sure we can win all the games. We have quality for that and every game
you play for Chelsea, you have to want to win."
