The
chairman of FIFA's medical committee says the row over Chelsea's club doctor
could lead to a new code of ethics for managers and team doctors.
Michel D'Hooghe says FIFA may formalise their position on the treatment of
players following an incident at the start of the season when Chelsea
manager Jose Mourinho banished team doctor Eva Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn
from the bench.
Carneiro was heavily criticised by Mourinho after she treated Eden Hazard on
the field late in their 2-2 draw at home to Swansea, leading to Hazard
having to leave the pitch and reducing the already 10-man Chelsea team down
to nine for a short time.
D'Hooghe told
Sky Sports News HQ: "I do not think we have the right
to interfere directly in a problem of a club with one of its medical
collaborators." However, they are considering a code of ethics.
FIFA's Medical Committee is meeting in Zurich and are expected to release a
statement later on Friday.
