Chelsea
captain John Terry was absent from training on the eve of Wednesday's
Champions League last-16 second leg with Paris St Germain.
The 35-year-old defender has missed the last five matches with a hamstring
problem sustained in the 5-1 win over Newcastle on February 13.
It seems as though Terry will miss the game as Guus Hiddink's side attempt
to reverse a 2-1 first-leg deficit at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are up against PSG for a third-straight season in the competition.
Chelsea won the quarter-final tie in 2014 on away goals, but were defeated
at the last-16 stage in 2015 by the same method.
PSG head into the game at Stamford Bridge after a disappointing goalless
draw against Montpellier on Saturday, but boss Laurent Blanc rested many of
his key players in anticipation of this game.
Team news
Aside from Terry, striker Diego Costa was present in training after missing
last Saturday's draw with Stoke as a precaution due to a minor tendon
problem. Kenedy (groin) and Pedro (hamstring) also took part.
Radamel Falcao, absent since October with a thigh problem, trained, but the
striker is not in Chelsea's Champions League squad.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Luiz and Thiago Silva are all set to return to
PSG's side for the trip.
All three were left out of Blacn's starting line-up in Ligue 1 at the
weekend. Blaise Matuidi (thigh) and Marco Verratti (groin) have both
travelled to London, but will be assessed before the game.
Opta stats
Chelsea are in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the 12th time
in the last 13 seasons. They've reached the quarter finals on eight of these
occasions.
PSG have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League for the fourth
consecutive season, their best ever run. They've been eliminated in the
quarter finals in the last three campaigns.
Chelsea have scored in each of their last 22 Champions League home games.
The last time they failed to was in April 2011 against Manchester Utd (0-1).
PSG have failed to score in five of their six away games against English
clubs in European competition. The only exception being last season against
Chelsea (2-2 in the second-leg of the last 16).
Costa has only scored one goal in his last 15 Champions League games, that
was against Maccabi Tel Aviv last September.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored eight goals in 37 Champions League knockout
games. In the group stages, he has found the net 38 times in 79 games.
Edinson Cavani has scored three goals against Chelsea in the Champions
League, his joint-favourite opponent alongside Ajax and Manchester City.
However, none of these goals have come at Stamford Bridge.
Charlie's prediction
I really do think the absence of Terry is a massive blow. You need a man
with a cool head to lead you in situations like this and the task facing
Chelsea could overawe them.
I can see Costa getting frustrated and involved in too many personal battles
with PSG's Brazilian centre-back duo if things aren't going his way. You
need to keep your discipline on nights like this.
Chelsea have got it in them to win this and then suddenly they're believing
they can win the competition, but I just sense PSG have a goal in them,
which would make things very difficult.
I wouldn't be surprised if we have a reverse of the 2-1 scorelines and extra
time, but I'm leaning towards PSG turning up, doing a professional job and
just having enough to see them through, with Cavani being the man to do the
damage again.
