Ladies captain Katie Chapman is confident the club can come away from
Wembley with a cup double this weekend.
Chelsea play Notts County Ladies in the first ever FA Women’s Cup final held
at the national stadium on Saturday, with Jose Mourinho’s side tackling
Arsenal in the Community Shield the following day.
Chapman is looking for the ninth Women’s FA Cup win of her career having
previously lifted the trophy with Millwall Lionesses, Charlton and Arsenal.
And the 33-year-old is confident Chelsea Ladies can claim the first piece of
silverware in their history when they play County in front of what will be a
record crowd for an FA Women’s Cup final.
“A back-to-back Chelsea win would be amazing,” Chapman told Sky Sports News
HQ.
“It will be unbelievable to see the women’s game at Wembley on Saturday and
if the men can win on Sunday then it would be great for the club.
“To captain a side to win an FA Cup at Wembley is going to be another
massive moment in my career.”
Chelsea Ladies turned full-time at the beginning of this season and are
based alongside the men at the club’s Cobham training complex. And manager
Emma Hayes says her players thrive off the pressure that comes with being at
a big club.
“The place is full of winners and they remind each and every one of us of
what it means to wear the club crest,” she said.
“I think that inspires our players because the group that we have playing
for Chelsea all enjoy being part of a big pressure club.
