Player
of the year Eden Hazard will find it hard to reproduce the same levels for
Chelsea in 2015/16, says Tony Cascarino.
The Belgian forward picked up the PFA and Football Writers’ awards after a
stellar campaign for the Premier League champions.
Hazard was a key figure in the title win, weighing in with 14 goals and nine
assists for the Blues, but Cascarino says it would be a surprise if the
24-year-old can replicate his 2014/15 form, let alone improve on it.
“I don’t know if he can get better,” Cascarino told Sky Sports. “More goals?
Maybe. But his work rate was phenomenal and he was defensively brilliant for
the team.
“He’s only going to get better by what his stats say but I don’t think I saw
him have a poor game. There were a couple of average games but you’d take
that over the course of the season.
“He really stood out for me and rightly won the player of the year awards.
We often look at players and say ‘is he ever going to reach that level
again?’ Normally the answer is no they don’t. Not everyone can be like
Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi."
However, the former Stamford Bridge striker says if Hazard can repeat his
14/15 levels, the title will be Chelsea's without a doubt.
“If he can emulate what he’s done, it will come with a Premier League
title,” he said. “If he matches it again, Chelsea will be very effective.
But it will be difficult for him to get near that again.
"He’ll still be good – but he was destroying people at times last season.”
