Chelsea
have condemned the actions of a section of their supporters after coins were
thrown towards Manchester City players from the home end at Stamford Bridge.
The incident occurred after Manchester City scored an equaliser in the 37th
minute of their FA Cup fifth round tie on Sunday.
The referee Andre Marriner was seen picking up coins from the pitch at the
Matthew Harding (North) end of the ground and passing them to fourth
official Michael Jones.
A Chelsea spokesman said "We condemn the actions of those supporters who
threw coins onto the pitch as Manchester City celebrated their goal and if
caught the club will issue bans."
Sky Sports News HQ understand that the Football Association is
aware of coins being thrown on to the pitch at Stamford Bridge and will
investigate the matter.
The incident comes after West Brom's Chris Brunt was hit below his left eye
by a coin he claims was thrown by one of his own supporters during the FA
Cup fifth-round defeat at Reading on Saturday.
Manchester City scored their equaliser to make it 1-1 through youngster
David Faupala just a minute after Diego Costa took the lead for Chelsea.
