Drogba: Costa Is Like Me  (Sky Sports)

Diego Costa and Didier DrogbaChelsea legend Didier Drogba says he sees similarities with his fellow striker Diego Costa.

Since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer for £32million, Costa has fired in seven goals in his first five games for the club and currently leads the Premier League’s top scorers chart.

After the Spain international’s blistering start to life in England, Drogba has hailed the arrival of the Blues’ new frontman and believes that he’s the player they have been looking for.

“Like me, he came to this level a little bit late. When I look at him, I can see the desire to win every challenge, to score goals. He's very good,” he told reporters.

"He's hungry for goals and that's the best thing for a team like us.

"I think for him to start the season in England, coming from Spain, which is a very different league, and to recreate the same thing he was doing at Atletico, is fantastic.

"He's really good and he's enjoying playing here and being with us. That's the best feeling he could have. He's the striker we needed this season."

Drogba, 36, featured in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Schalke on Wednesday and failed to get on the scoresheet – something he puts down to an ongoing ankle injury.

"I'm like a diesel. I need time! It's good to be back. Most importantly, it's good to play without pain," he added.

"That's what I've been looking for, for the past few weeks, to play without pain.

"I got a chance to start and despite the result, which was not the best, I'm quite happy with the way my ankle reacted to this kind of effort."

Despite their disappointing midweek draw in the Champions League, the Ivorian striker believes his side will get back to winning ways for Sunday’s league clash at Manchester City.

He said: "It's a different competition. I hope we can continue the way we've started in the Premier League against City. I think we can and I hope we can.

"We will go there to try to win, like we've gone out to try to win every game this season, so let's see what's going to happen."
