Diego
Costa sat in the stands among the Chelsea supporters during Sunday’s clash
with Liverpool.
The striker, who is currently out of action with a hamstring injury, opted
against the dugout or an executive box for the Super Sunday game and instead
sat high in the East Stand among fans, many of whom were wearing shirts with
his name on the back.
“You’d have thought they’d have got him a decent ticket. He’s up in the
gods,” joked
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.
“It’s good to see. You don’t see a player sat up there in the crowd with the
fans too often. He’ll certainly endear himself to the Chelsea fans a lot
more.”
Costa patiently signed autographs and posed for pictures before scampering
for the exit in the 40th minute, followed by a train of supporters
attempting to get close to their hero.
The
Sky Sports cameras caught him leaving his seat flanked by
stewards, but still waving happily to the crowd a week after the club were
confirmed as Premier League champions.
“I think he’s been rumbled,” Neville added. “They have all stood up around
him looking to where he is.
“The 40-minute experiment is over. They should have brought him on
commentary instead of me…”
However, Costa was not gone for good and returned to his seat in the crowd
during the second half to continue his experience of enjoying Premier League
football from a supporter's point of view.
