Van Aanholt Heading For Exit  (Sky Sports)

Patrick van AanholtPatrick van Aanholt has announced that he sees his future away from Chelsea and is looking for a move this summer.

The Dutch defender still has 12 months left to run on his current contract at Stamford Bridge but has no intention of running that deal down.

Instead, the 23-year-old is looking to take on a new challenge.

Despite spending the last seven years on the books at Chelsea, Van Aanholt has been restricted to just eight first team appearances and has spent much of his time out on loan.

Early spells at Coventry City, Newcastle United, Leicester City and Wigan Athletic have been followed by three seasons back in his native Holland with Vitesse Arnhem.

He has earned senior international recognition during his time in the Eredivisie and formed part of Louis van Gaal’s pre-World Cup plans before being cut from the final 23-man squad.

Van Aanholt acknowledges that he needs to be playing regularly if he is to remain part of that set-up and feels the time is right to start looking outside of west London.

He told Voetbal International: “Where will I play next season?

“I don’t know yet. It definitely won’t be at Chelsea. I am done here.”

Reports in Holland suggest that Feyenoord, who have already lost Bruno Martins Indi and Daryl Janmaat this summer, are leading the chase for Van Aanholt.
