Championship
side Middlesbrough have taken on Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas on loan,
potentially for the rest of the season.
The versatile 21-year-old, who has just returned to England from a loan
spell with German side FC Koln, has made two appearances for Chelsea and has
had a previous loan spell with Dutch side Vitesse.
The Czech international will link up with fellow Chelsea loan men Patrick
Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo and will now be available for selection for
Middlesbrough's visit to Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
A statement on the club's website read: "(Kalas) will be a solid edition to
Aitor Karanka’s squad after a season that has so far been blighted with
injuries."
Spaniard Damia Abella arrived from Osasuna in the summer to play at
right-back, but suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage and will not
feature again this season.
Fellow right-back Ryan Fredericks, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, is also
out of action because of injury.
