Chelsea
captain John Terry says the club need to respond to recent setbacks by
putting together a run of good results.
The Blues held a healthy lead at the top of the table at one point in
November and were strong title favourites.
But their stuttering away form has allowed Manchester City to steadily erase
the deficit and the reigning champions are now level with the Blues at the
top after Jose Mourinho’s side suffered a 5-3 defeat at Tottenham on New
Year's Day.
Terry told the Chelsea website: “It's hard to see them claw us back.
"We were eight points in front and now we're level on points.
"It's disappointing to have lost that lead but we said in the dressing room
we'll come together, put a run together, and hopefully get a lead again.”
Mourinho felt Chelsea should have been awarded a penalty at White Hart Lane
when they led 1-0 and Terry agrees with his manager that the team have been
unfortunate with refereeing decisions of late.
"We should have had a penalty at Southampton and we should have had another
one at 1-0," said Terry.
"The game's finished then (if Chelsea had gone 2-0 up). Sometimes you get
them, sometimes you don't, and in the last few games we haven't.
"We're very disappointed to start the New Year with a defeat but we'll move
on from this.
"I thought at times we played some really good football but it just wasn't
our day so we'll forget this one and move on very quickly.
"Once we got the goal they were on the back foot but they scored from
nothing and were back in the game."
