Matic: Small Details Matter  (Sky Sports)

Nemanja MaticNemanja Matic believes an improvement in 'small games' will see Chelsea pushing for the Premier League title.

Jose Mourinho’s men finished the 2013/14 campaign in third place, four points adrift of champions Manchester City.

They were left to reflect on what might have been, with surprise defeats against the likes of Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Sunderland costing them dear.

Matic is aware of the need to avoid a repeat of those untimely slip-ups when the chase for honours starts again, with the battle for top-flight supremacy expected to be keenly contested.

The Serbian midfielder said: I am very confident for the new season. Chelsea are in good shape and we want to win the title.

Last season was very difficult for us. In some, if I can say small games, we lost points at home. That decided our season. This year we will try not to make the same mistakes.

We know what we have to do and we are prepared for everything.

There are five or six teams that will fight for the title and it’s going to be hard. But we are strong and we will fight until the end.

Matic returned to Stamford Bridge for a second spell in January, completing a big-money move from Benfica, and he considers the current Chelsea squad to be stronger than the one he left in 2011.

He added: So much is now different to my first time at Chelsea.

The way we play has changed. This Chelsea is a much younger team but we still know we can do a lot and we improve every day with the manager. This team has a good future.
